The minus sign ( - ) before a term tells the search engine to completely omit any results containing that specific word or domain. By stacking -gmail.com -yahoo.com -hotmail.com -aol.com , the user is explicitly telling the search engine: "Show me results, but hide anything associated with the world's most common free email providers." 2.
