The film takes place 10 years after the events of the first film. Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) are married and have a son named Alex (Freddie Boath). However, their happiness is short-lived as the mummy, Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), returns to life and seeks to resurrect his master, the evil Scorpion King.
The movie follows Rick, Evelyn, and Alex as they travel to China to find the legendary city of Hamunaptra, where the Scorpion King was once imprisoned.
