Furthermore, his approach requires a high level of scientific literacy, potentially alienating the lay believer who relies on traditional, devotional readings of the text. Critics argue that by focusing heavily on the cosmic and physical aspects of the verses, the ethical, spiritual, and legislative dimensions of the Quran may be inadvertently marginalized.
