Hidenobu Sasaki was a leading analyst at Nikko Citigroup Securities in Japan during the 1990s. While Ichimoku Kinko Hyo was invented by Goichi Hosoda in the 1930s, the system fell into relative disuse after his death. Sasaki is credited with reviving the methodology in 1996.
