Each team had a different vision, leading to delays and a fractured development cycle. Eventually, Valve and Sierra Entertainment released a product that was essentially a hybrid of previous efforts. Despite the messy development, the final product utilized the venerable (the same engine powering Half-Life ) but featured heavily updated character models, high-resolution textures, and enhanced atmospheric effects like dynamic weather.
