Karishma Kapoor was born on , in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India , into the heart of Bollywood's first family. She is the daughter of veteran actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita, and the elder sister of the equally famous actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. Her paternal grandfather was the legendary showman Raj Kapoor, and her maternal grandfather was actor Hari Shivdasani. Despite her family's deep film roots, Karishma's own journey was not straightforward. Her father was initially against women in his family pursuing acting careers, leading to a period of separation from her mother. Determined to act, Karishma dropped out of school after the sixth standard and made her debut at the young age of 16, supporting herself and her mother.
