Set in the spring of 1946, the story follows Ivan Bibic (John Savage), a young American soldier returning to his small Pennsylvania town. Ivan is psychologically shattered after surviving a brutal Japanese POW camp. Throughout his torture, the only thing that kept him alive was the vision of his childhood sweetheart, Maria Bosic (Nastassja Kinski).
It's a drama about a WWII veteran, Ivan, who returns home and marries his childhood sweetheart, Maria, but is unable to consummate the marriage due to his severe psychological trauma from the war.
